Crafts

 

Also known as Applied Arts, Crafts is study of a variety of arts and crafts from around the world and a few from our own backyard. The class learns about the history and significance of the craft, such as where it came from, why people did it, who did it, and how they did it. Then, they put their knowledge to practice and try it themselves.

Some things we might learn about:

Paper making- Learn about the history and importance of the invention of paper. Make handmade paper as a class and use it!

Pinatas- Learn about the cultural importance and history of pinatas. Design and create your own pinata. You have the option of filling your pinata and busting it in our own fiesta!

Handbuilding- Learn about the history and importance of ceramics in East Tennessee. Create a variety of handbuilt ceramic pieces.

Printmaking- Learn about the importance of the printing press, and printmaking as an artform. Design and create your own stamps, seals, and collagraphs.

Macrame- Learn about the history and significance of macrame and other knots. Create macrame jewelry of your own.
