Anderson County High School, home
of the Mavericks, is one of two high schools in the Anderson
County School System. We are located just off I-75 at exit
122 or the Norris/Clinton exit. Enrollment for the
2008-2009 school year was 1135. Our school is currently in
"Good Standing" under the provisions of the No Child Left Behind
Act. Our latest test scores and our goals for school
improvement can be found at the SIP
link found at the bottom of our homepage.
Anderson County High is staffed
by caring, dedicated teachers who are committed to continuous
improvement through self-reflection, collaboration and use of
the latest research in teaching. We are members of the
Southern Regional Educational Board's "High Schools that Work"
and have implemented many of the outstanding programs
recommended by that organization for school improvement. We are
an accredited school having met the requirements established by
the AdvancED Accreditation Commission and the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and
School Improvement.
The Guidance staff at ACHS does a
wonderful job assisting students with the transition from middle
to high school, planning class schedules, making career and
college decisions and securing college scholarships. The
class of 2009 was awarded an estimated two millions dollars in
potential college scholarships.
In partnership with the Anderson
County Career and Technical Center, we offer an extensive number
of classes designed to prepare our students for the next level
of their careers, whether it be to a four year university,
community college, technical school or into the workplace.
Classes and descriptions can be found at the
Department link at the
top of this webpage.
We offer many extracurricular
activities designed to give our students a well rounded
education. Our award winning band program, drama club, dance
team and choral music classes all put on outstanding
performances. Students have the opportunity to participate in
several different service oriented clubs such as the Leo Club or
the National Honor Society. Our Naval Junior ROTC program
has consistently been recognized nationally as a "Distinguished
Unit" having received that award in each year of its existence
at Anderson County High.
Students who attend our
school have the opportunity to participate in a very competitive
athletics program, which boasts state champions in Volleyball
and Girls' Track. Our football, baseball, basketball and
boys' track teams all have made appearances at the state
tournament level. We have athletic facilities that are
second to none in east Tennessee.
Anderson County High School
welcomes the participation of parents, businesses and the
community in our efforts to provide for our students the best
possible education. It is only through the combined
efforts of all of our stakeholders that we will continue to
improve.
